If you're drawn to what we're building and you see yourself in this role, we'd love to hear from you.

Where and How You Can Work

Our offices are a hub for collaboration and energy — and we also believe in working where you do your best thinking. Canva offers flexibility to work in a way that suits you, whether that's remote, hybrid, or in-office.

What You'd Be Doing in This Role

Canva is used by over 150 million people every day — and keeping that platform safe is one of the most important things we do. Our Safety & Trust Operations (STOps) team sits at the centre of that mission, combining deep operational expertise with cross-functional fluency to reduce harm at scale.

As Senior Operations Expert, you'll be a key individual contributor on the STOps team — leading complex abuse investigations, supporting vendor guidance, and contributing to the AI-driven tooling and classifier training that powers our detection capabilities. This is a high-trust, high-responsibility role for someone who thrives in ambiguous environments, handles nuanced decisions with care, and genuinely cares about making the internet safer.

Please note: this role involves regular exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing content, including child safety material. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Own the North America social strategy and be one of the founding leaders of Canva's growing North America marketing function.

Build, lead, and grow a team of social experts and creators. Set the bar for great work, coach people up, and give them the ownership and trust to do their best work.

Widen where Canva shows up. Come ready to show the work and the results (follower growth, engagement, cultural reach).

Genuine cultural fluency. You're plugged into what's happening in American culture, online and offline, and you have sharp instincts for what will resonate and what won't.

Experience partnering with Communications, PR, or Brand Partnerships teams to align social with the broader brand and comms strategy.

A leadership style that empowers people. You know how to hire well, coach hard, and get out of the way so your team can do great work.

Strong executive presence. You can pitch a bold, unproven idea to leadership as convincingly as you can jump into the comments yourself.

Data fluency. You can read performance data, pull out the insight, and use it to sharpen strategy.

If you want to build a marketing channel from a strong foundation into something much bigger and help decide what American culture thinks of Canva, this is that role.

About the team

Canva is going all in on North America. We're building out our marketing function in the region from the ground up, and we're looking to level up our creative and our presence here massively. Social is one of the biggest levers we have to do that, and we want someone who can pick it up and run.

This isn't a maintenance job. You won't inherit a channel list to manage; you'll get a mandate to widen how and where Canva shows up, from the platforms we're already on to whatever comes next. Just as importantly, you'll change how social works inside Canva. Instead of being the last stop where finished creative gets posted, social becomes a source: ideas that start in the comments, in a trend, in a format, and travel out into our broader creative and marketing work.

The bigger ambition is cultural, not just channel growth. We want Canva woven into American culture, not just visible in it. That means building a team and a way of working that lets us move at the speed of culture, take real creative risks, and earn the kind of attention that makes people feel like Canva gets it. You've likely done a version of this before, at a brand people know by name. You know what it takes to build a social team with a real point of view, one that moves fast and turns cultural moments into brand moments. Now you want to do it on a bigger scale, with more resources and more license to be bold, for a brand that’s hungry to serve truly local content to this region.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too

Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers

An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more

Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally

Check out lifeatcanva.com for more info.

Other stuff to know

We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

You'd be the second Staff Engineer on Export, splitting the domain with our existing Staff Engineer so neither of us is a single point of failure on the hardest parts of the system.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Owning the technical direction of how Canva renders designs into files, including our Chromium-based export pipeline, and setting the architecture that keeps it reliable as both Canva's editor and Chromium itself keep moving

Being the person the team turns to on the hardest rendering problems: upgrade breakages, rendering race conditions, and production incidents caused by upstream Chromium changes

Deciding how we absorb upstream change rather than react to it, which covers monitoring and testing infrastructure that catches Chromium regressions before users do, and designs that survive Chromium's frequent output structure changes

Setting the direction for PDF accessibility and compliance (PDF/UA, WCAG) across exported files for our Enterprise customers, and making the calls on how deeply we tag, where we draw the line, and what we build versus buy

Leading on export reliability and performance at the scale of over 50 million weekly downloads, spanning format optimisation, distributed systems design, and the failure modes that only show up at that volume

Raising the level of the engineers around you through design review, pairing on gnarly debugging sessions, and the kind of documentation that turns one person's Chromium knowledge into the team's

Working across the Editing Platform group and beyond it, so that teams shipping new editor features know their work will hold up when someone hits download

You're probably a match if

You have deep experience with Chromium or another browser rendering engine, and you've worked inside it rather than just around it

You're comfortable in C++ when a problem takes you into a large third-party codebase, and you can build a clear picture of code you didn't write

A background in rendering pipelines, graphics programming, or print production systems

You're a strong Java backend engineer, that's what our product is built on

You've owned a technical domain end to end: you set the architecture, made the trade-offs, and lived with the consequences

You've debugged layered systems where the problem spans multiple codebases and languages, and you've led others through that kind of investigation

You bring the engineers around you along with you, through mentoring, design review, and the standards you hold

You've built or maintained systems where upstream dependencies change frequently, and you have a view on how to make that sustainable

Nice to have:

PDF specification knowledge, or experience with PDF generation and post-processing

Experience with accessibility standards in document or file output

About the team

The Export team sits within the Editing Platform group and owns one of Canva's most critical workflows: transforming designs into downloadable files that users can share, print, and bring to life. Over 50 million people download their creations through us every week. We focus on three things: reliability users can count on, speed that keeps pace with their creativity, and flexibility across every format and use case.

Beyond the main download flow, we power print production, enable AI model training, generate thumbnails, and make sure every new editor feature works seamlessly when someone hits that download button. As a Staff Software Engineer here, you'd be shaping how one of Canva's highest-leverage systems evolves, and the decisions you make will be felt by every team that ships something a user needs to download.

Other stuff to know

We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture.

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

What you'd be doing in this role

The Production Engineering team sits at the intersection of software engineering and the hardest reliability problems in Canva's infrastructure. At 240M MAUs, the hardest problems aren't on any product roadmap. Production Engineering exists to find them first and fix them properly. Writing software. Changing how production behaves. When it works, every team ships with more confidence and Canva gets faster and more resilient for the people who use it every day.

The strategic bet is a different model entirely. Canva's own take on what production reliability looks like, built for how we work. Senior software engineers embedded long-term in the areas that carry the most technical risk, working shoulder to shoulder with product teams, close enough to the roadmap to shape how features land in production before the problems compound. Not operationalising systems. Not running alerts. Writing software that changes how production behaves.

The engineers who do this work well have gone deep in systems most people only operate. They can walk into a codebase they didn't write, understand what's actually happening at scale, win the technical respect of the team they're embedded with, and then bend the software to make it more reliable, more efficient, and more resilient.

At Principal level, you're also the person who defines what this practice looks like at Canva. The calibration anchor for every hire, every engagement, and every standard the team sets.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Defining the engagement model: How Production Engineering pairs with product and infrastructure teams, how engagements are scoped, and what handoff actually looks like. This model is new. You're shaping it.

Leading the hardest engagements: Taking personal ownership of the most technically complex areas, sharding, multi-region architecture, JVM performance at scale, while the team builds depth in adjacent domains.

Setting the technical bar: What it means to be a production engineer at Canva. The standard for technical credibility. The archetype that future hiring calibrates against.

Pairing strategy across the team: Deciding how staff and mid-level engineers are paired and what they should be learning from each engagement. Growing production engineering capability across the org, not just within the team.

Connecting to the product roadmap: Working with engineering leadership across Canva to ensure Production Engineering is upstream of problems, not downstream. Influencing how product teams think about production readiness before they ship.

Building the measurement story: Incident severity and duration trending down. Feature launches going to production cleanly. You define what the metrics are and how they're tracked.

Compounding at organisation scale: One well-placed Production Engineering engagement changes how engineers build for years. At Principal level, your leverage is the sum of all those engagements, plus the standard you set for how each one runs.

What success looks like: As a secondee, developing trusted relationship with your team. Guiding them towards, shipping at velocity, with more confidence and less toil.

You’re probably a match

We'd love to hear from you if you fit one or more of these. You don't need to meet all of them, but the more the better and if you join the team, we're invested in helping you grow.

Experience

Production at scale: You've owned reliability in large-scale distributed systems. When things went brake, you investigate how and shipped the solution that lasts forever.

Technical leadership in embedded models: You've led or helped shape a function where engineers work across team boundaries rather than within a single one. You know what makes that model work and what makes it fail.

Hands-on through seniority: You've stayed close to the code. At this level, you're the engineer others consult when the problem is genuinely hard.

Cross-org influence: You've shaped how teams outside your own make technical decisions because your technical judgement is trusted.

JVM or systems depth: You've built real things in Java, Go, Rust, C++, or a comparable systems language at production scale. Language matters less than depth.

Distributed systems in practice: You've navigated sharding, replication, failure modes, and consistency tradeoffs in production.

Technical knowledge

Linux internals: You can reason about process scheduling, memory, I/O, and the network stack when a system misbehaves.

Distributed systems: You've navigated sharding, replication, failure modes, and consistency tradeoffs in production. As well as consistent hashing, leader election, consensus, backpressure, circuit breakers

Observability tooling: You've built the tracing, dashboards, and alerting that tells you what's wrong.

Containerisation and orchestration: Kubernetes in production, at the scheduler level.

Performance analysis: You've profiled JVM applications or systems-level processes and fixed what you found.

Cloud infrastructure: AWS in production, across the failure modes that matter at scale.

Incident response: You've been on-call and have opinions about what good looks like.

Nice to have

Enterprise SaaS background: You've done this specific kind of work at an org that's done it well. You know what "production engineering" means when it's not just a job title.

JVM internals: You've tuned GC and profiled threads in production.

Multi-region or sharding experience: You've been involved in a data store migration or multi-region architecture where getting it wrong was not an option.

About the Group and Team

Join the Production Engineering Group at Canva, where our mission is to make every system that powers Canva fast, reliable, and ready for the next scale. Infra owns the infrastructure layer that every other team builds on: compute, storage, networking, developer experience, and reliability.

The Reliability Platform subgroup is where Canva thinks seriously about the technical risk that comes with operating at hundreds of millions of users. It's a group with broad scope, from the tooling that helps teams run incidents well, to the engineering work that stops incidents from happening in the first place.

Production Engineering sits within Reliability Platform.

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It’s a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect. This role is based in Sydney, and we’re looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Performance is fundamental to Canva's editing experience. As we grow, our editor needs to remain fast, smooth and reliable across different devices, networks and increasingly complex designs.

The Editing Performance team is rebuilding foundational parts of Canva's editor architecture, primarily in TypeScript with a growing amount of React Native and native development. You'll have the opportunity to work deep in the foundations of the editor, helping it perform at scale while making it easier for engineering teams across Canva to build performant experiences.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Designing, developing and deploying software solutions, partnering closely with engineering leads, designers and product managers to deliver experiences for Canva's global community.

Working primarily in TypeScript as we rebuild core parts of the editor, with opportunities to work across React Native and native surfaces.

Driving measurable performance improvements across the editor, using performance data and instrumentation to understand problems, prioritise opportunities and demonstrate impact.

Building tools, frameworks and libraries that empower other engineers at Canva to create performant features.

Taking ownership of complex technical problems, breaking larger initiatives into achievable pieces and driving work from idea through to delivery.

Sharing technical knowledge and identifying opportunities to collaborate across teams on improvements that help us achieve our goals.

You're probably a match if

You have strong commercial software engineering experience and have worked on complex, large-scale applications, SDKs or APIs.

You have deep TypeScript experience and are comfortable navigating large, long-lived codebases, including reasoning about systems and types you didn't originally build.

You've contributed to architecture decisions and enjoy solving complex engineering problems rather than simply building within established patterns.

You're comfortable working with performance data — instrumenting metrics, interpreting dashboards and using evidence to prioritise work and demonstrate impact.

You bring strong computer science and engineering fundamentals, including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture and design patterns.

You're curious about how software performs under the hood. Experience with browser rendering, event handling, WebWorkers or WebGL/WebGPU is a strong plus, while familiarity with native rendering pipelines or JavaScript engine internals is a bonus.

You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively and enjoy sharing knowledge while helping others solve difficult technical problems.

About the team

The Editing Group builds the core design experience at the heart of Canva. We work across the systems that make editing intuitive, responsive and scalable, tackling challenges spanning rendering performance, interactive design experiences and seamless cross-platform editing.

Within Editing, the Editing Performance team focuses on making sure performance never gets in the way of creativity. We improve page load and interaction performance, tackle memory and reliability challenges, build the measurement systems that help teams understand performance, and create frameworks that empower engineers across Canva to make performance part of how they build.

Our ambition is simple but challenging: Canva's editor should perform brilliantly regardless of platform, device, network or design complexity.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard — and we do — but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

Equity packages — we want our success to be yours too

Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers

An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more

Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and support you personally

Check out lifeatcanva.com for more info.

Other stuff to know

We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture.
